Trim-Tex Racing to Debut New Sportscar Program in Collaboration with Round 3 Racing

Trim-Tex CEO, Joe Koenig, and Trim-Tex sponsored NASCAR Driver, Josh Bilicki, to serve as team’s primary drivers.

Lincolnwood, IL (February 13, 2024) - Trim-Tex Drywall Solutions, a world recognized manufacturer of drywall bead and accessories, is no stranger to the motorsports industry. Along with their CEO, Joe Koenig, Trim-Tex has been involved in the motorsports industry as a sponsor, team owner, and a competitor for nearly three decades. In 2024, Trim-Tex Racing is set to tackle yet another new challenge.

Joe Koenig and Trim-Tex sponsored driver, Josh Bilicki, are set to compete in a full-season of WRL (World Racing League), a multi-class endurance racing series with races across the U.S. The duo will drive a Trim-Tex branded Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car prepared by Round 3 Racing, a professional race team located in Joliet, IL.

Adrenaline is no foreign sensation to Joe Koenig. In 2002, Koenig was nearly the first Pro Stock motorcycle rider in the six-second zone and held the AMA Prostar record at 7.029, earning the name “7-0 Joe. He also won a NHRA Dragbike championship as a team owner with Geno Scali in 2003 and he sponsors Larry “Spiderman” McBride. In addition to his impressive resume on two wheels, Joe has been a regular competitor in sportscar racing for nearly twenty years, racing (and winning) across IMSA and the SCCA.

“Everyone at Round 3 Racing, Josh Bilicki, Rob May and myself are all working hard to get our Porsche 911 race car engineered and modified to conform to “World Racing League” rules,” says Koenig. “So far, everything is going to plan and we couldn’t be happier with the high level of attack, long days, Porsche expertise that R3R crews are delivering! We are all looking forward to debut the #70 car at the beautiful and fun Barber Motorsport Park.”

Joining Joe Koenig will be road racer turned NASCAR driver, Josh Bilicki. Bilicki, a Trim-Tex sponsored athlete since 2012, will share a racecar with Koenig for the first time since 2017, when the pair won the longest endurance race in the country together, the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, in a Trim-Tex Mazda MX5 Cup Car. Bilicki also made his professional racing debut in a Trim-Tex sponsored BMW in the IMSA Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge in 2015 and continues to represent the brand across his busy racing schedule.

“Joe (Koenig) and the Trim-Tex Drywall team have become like family to me,” says Bilicki. “Without the support of Trim-Tex, I may have never gotten my first opportunity to race at the pro level, which was ultimately a stepping stone for me to turn my passion into a career. To be paired up with Joe in the Trim-Tex colors again means so much to me, and to compete under the Round 3 Racing banner is even better.”

Round 3 Racing is owned by the father-son team of Buz and Brad McCall. Buz has a long and successful racing history going back to the 1980’s in IMSA. In the 1990’s, his American Equipment Racing team, as the factory supported Chevrolet team, won four consecutive championships in Trans-Am. The team transitioned to NASCAR’s Busch and Winston Cup series with Caterpillar as the sponsor in the mid-to-late 1990’s. Buz’s son, Brad, formed Round 3 Racing in 2013, with the intent of beginning a racing career of his own. In 2015, Buz joined Round 3 Racing full-time and helped usher in the team’s endurance racing effort in 2018. R3R is managed at the race shop by its longtime crew chief Marc Gomora, a highly experienced professional race technician and Porsche master mechanic.

"Buz and I, along with everyone at Round 3 Racing, are excited to partner with Trim-Tex, Joe, and Josh in 2024,” says Brad McCall. “Nobody has ever done what we're attempting to do with this 911 GT3 platform, but we have the team and the drive to make it a success."

Trim-Tex Racing’s WRL schedule will feature seven stops across the country, with each weekend hosting two eight hour endurance races, making a total of fourteen races in the Trim-Tex Porsche.
